NEW CHICAGO BISTRO-STYLE FRENCH ONION SOUP MIX OFFERS CLASSIC SLOW-COOKED TASTE WITH MODERN-DAY CONVENIENCE

Frontier Soups of Waukegan, Ill., is announcing the addition of a new soup that is easy to warm up to--Chicago Bistro French Onion Soup™. The new dry soup mix is being introduced here today at the 52nd National Association for the Specialty Food Trade Summer Fancy Food Show.

As part of the company’s Homemade in Minutes® line, the new soup is a fresh take on an old classic, retaining the cooked-all-day flavor of made-from-scratch soup but designed to meet the time limitations of today’s busy lifestyles.

The soup, which will serve four to five, is ready in 30 to 45 minutes depending on whether the cook chooses to caramelize an onion and finish the soup under the broiler with toasted bread and gruyere cheese, said Trisha Anderson, Frontier Soups’ founder. “It’s delicious either way,” Anderson said.

Home cooks add beef broth, a large sweet onion (sautéed or caramelized) and apple cider or apple juice to spike the flavor, she added. The soup is all natural with no added preservatives, MSG or salt. “This is not your ordinary just-add-water soup. It’s loaded with lots of onions, black beluga lentils, oregano and other seasonings,” Anderson said. “A creative use of fresh ingredients makes this line of soups unique. They are a meal you can be proud to serve to family and friends.”

Chicago Bistro French Onion Soup is the 15th soup in the Homemade in Minutes line and is its fourth “city” soup joining New Orleans Jambalaya Soup™, San Francisco Thai Golden Peanut™ and Midwest Weekend Cincinnati Chili™. Each Homemade in Minutes soup has an inventive variation to make a completely different meal with the dry mix. Chicago Bistro French Onion Soup easily converts to a hearty winter stew by reducing the liquid and adding beef stew meat and potatoes.
