FRONTIER SOUPS FOUNDER CONVERTS FAMILY FAVORITE GRITS RECIPE INTO NEW PACKAGED SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY ROASTED CORN GRITS
With a Northern Italian twist on a Deep South tradition, Southern Hospitality Roasted Corn Grits™ is being introduced here at the 52nd National Association for the Specialty Food Trade Summer Fancy Food Show by Frontier Soups of Waukegan, Ill.
The quick-cooking white corn grits are anything but bland when combined with milk, butter, gruyere and Parmesan cheeses. A seasoning blend with fire roasted air dried corn and peppers gives the grits a slightly smoky taste, said Trisha Anderson, founder of Frontier Soups.
The mixture is stirred on the stovetop for 10 minutes, beaten for five minutes, then poured into a flat casserole dish and baked for 35 minutes. The firm and cheesy grits can be cut into squares and will serve 12 or the recipe can be halved. The mix is all natural with no preservatives, MSG or added salt.
Southern Hospitality Roasted Corn Grits are sold in transparent cellophane bags with the ingredients clearly displayed. “My whole family loves this dish so much. My Mom has been serving it for more than 50 years since she cut the recipe out of the Chicago Tribune,” Anderson said. “It’s great with sausage and eggs for breakfast or as a side dish with roast lamb, chicken or barbecued ribs.”
